Really wonderful book told in an exciting and well planned out pace. Not predictable, nor overly complicated characters. It's a quick read and great thriller without being scary (I could read this before bed :) )Tags : Amazon.com: Close to Home: A Novel (A DI Adam Fawley Novel) (9780143131052): Cara Hunter: Books,Cara Hunter,Close to Home: A Novel (A DI Adam Fawley Novel),Penguin Books,0143131052,Mystery & Detective - Police Procedural,Thrillers - Psychological,Thrillers - Suspense,Detective and mystery fiction,FICTION Suspense,FICTION Suspense.,Families,Missing children,Missing children;Fiction.,Missing persons - Investigation,Mystery fiction,Oxford (England),Police,Police - England - Oxford,Police;England;Oxford;Fiction.,Secrecy,Suspense fiction,Thrillers (Fiction),ENGLISH MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,England,FICTION Mystery & Detective Police Procedural,FICTION Thrillers Psychological,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction-Thriller,FictionMystery & Detective - Police Procedural,FictionThrillers - Psychological,GENERAL,General Adult,MysterySuspense,United States, mystery books;mysteries;mystery and thrillers;thrillers;psychological thrillers books;oxford university;uk;british fiction;britain;psychological thriller;mystery;whodunit;whodunnit;gossip;small town;family dynamics;suspense;fiction;family;novel;thriller;crime;detective;secrets;england;british;english;child;parenting;parents;kidnapping;abuse;marriage;domestic;spouse;thriller books;crime novel;wings;close to home;crime books;suspense books;mystery and suspense;detective novels;murder mystery books, suspense; fiction; family; novel; thriller; crime; detective; secrets; england; british; english; child; parenting; parents; kidnapping; abuse; missing child; marriage; domestic; spouse; thriller books; crime novel; wings; oxford university; uk; british fiction; britain; psychological thriller; mystery; whodunit; whodunnit; gossip; small town; family dynamics; mystery books; mysteries; mystery and thrillers; thrillers; psychological thrillers books; mystery thriller suspense; detective novels; suspense thriller books; crime books

I found this book wordy and not very intriguing. Characters were less than exciting- almost stopped reading, but lo’ and behold, nice twist at the end. 😊
Amazing read! Twist at the very end - excellent thriller. Police procedural any reader will enjoy.
Unbelievable twist at the end! Excellent excellent excellent... No other words to subscribe this book!!
It was a page turner. I liked it, then I was mad, then I was appalled, then I was really shocked, then I turned into loving it again...read it.now.
Another thrilling read. At no time did I suspect the book would end as it did.
Right from the start I was drawn into the story. The author writes with such a realistic tone, it's like someone is just talking to you and you immediately feel like you are included. There are multiple viewpoints throughout the book, and it can be a little jarring not knowing who is narrating at first when the perspective changes. I just read a book where it was done a lot worse though, so it didn't bother me too much, here.
The mystery of what happened to Daisy keeps you going, as the possible suspects are called out, never straying far from the family. Even if you're not that enthralled with figuring it out, the minor plot points and characters are interesting enough on their own. I honestly never wanted to put the book down. I just love the way this author writes.
I'm sure not everyone will love the ending, but I did. It would have been a let down to me if it had gone the way it seems to, right towards the final few pages. If there were a few things 'niggling at you' like one of the characters says, you won't be disappointed!
I'm so glad that there are more books in this series, but they need to be on the ! I'm simply too impatient to wait for the next one to ship to me!
Barry and Sharon Mason host a summer barbecue for friends and neighbours. When the party ends their eight year-old daughter, Daisy, is nowhere to be found. From the moment DI Adam Fawley arrives on the scene, the lack of emotion, and odd behaviour of both parents strikes him as odd. And as he soon discovers that’s only the beginning.
Wow, the characters in this book couldn’t have possibly had any more skeletons in their closet. The secrets just kept on coming, and just when you thought you knew all there was to know, there was more. And while you were recovering from that, still more.
Cara Hunter expertly utilised red herrings, subtle misdirection, and well-timed and carefully hidden hints. There was many a scene, where I was so immersed in what else was going on that I failed to notice important clues, and each new reveal left me reeling, thrilled over the authors ability to surprise me.
The plot unfolded in the present – mainly focusing on the investigation into finding Daisy, as well as flashbacks to before. The flashbacks used a format not often seen, with the first one taking place the day before Daisy went missing, and then working backwards. Often there would be a plot reveal in the present, followed by the flashback relating to it, increasing my dread at every turn. There were also twitter posts inserted throughout, containing sadness and well wishes from the public, as well as accusations, conspiracy theories, and escalations of violence. Not only were the views and opinions downright scary in some instances, but they also showed just how much social media can impede an investigation. There are some distressing and disturbing scenes – given the topic it would be hard for there not to be – but they are handled sensitively, and aren’t overly graphic.
I really enjoyed DI Adam Fawley and his team. Even though we did get some of his tragic back story, I feel like we’ve barely scratched the surface, and I’m relishing delving more into his psyche as the series progresses. Can’t wait to get stuck into book two, ‘In the Dark’.
Really wonderful book told in an exciting and well planned out pace. Not predictable, nor overly complicated characters. It's a quick read and great thriller without being scary (I could read this before bed ) )
